I was unplugging an AC adapter from the wall today when I noticed something on both sides of the connector. At first I had no idea what they were there for. Maybe it was for aesthetic reasons? In fact, they felt so natural in my hand that I didn’t even notice it until I looked more carefully. Each side had a large “knotch” for finger and thumb placement.
The design of something should provide for the user an optimal experience. Sometimes, it is done so well that it gets completely overlooked. You’re looking for the right balance between both form and function without having to sacrifice either one. This can be tricky, but what matters most is the experience your customer has with your brand. Put yourself in the mindset of your users and cater to that strategy above all else.
